What a week! It is a sunny, hot and humid afternoon in Minneapolis. It is relatively the same temperature here in the middle of the day as it is in Niamey at 1:00 am. YIKES, I don’t know if we are ready for this. The other day it was 34 celsius with 58% humidity.
Stacy and I have just completed our week of orientation. We sit now in a quaint coffee shop taking some time to relax and enjoy each others presence.
Our week of orientation was a wild ride. We were in meetings from 8:oo am until 9:00 pm every day. Our brains felt at times as if they would explode! Fortunately for everyone they didn’t.
It is hard to say what the highlight of the week was. Living in a dorm room, seeing the sun, jogging again, not having to cook, putting faces to people we have been working with or being gathered with 80 other International Workers. We went through fears and doubts as we faced realities of the some of the challenges we would have to face as we transition to a new culture. Then we felt excited about this change and how it could be used to deepen our character and our girls character. I know, some of you are thinking, is that really possible? Well, if you saw the group of people we were with this week, yes it is!
One of the highlights was hearing George Durance the President of TeachBeyond share the Vision and Mission. I tell you, my heart has never resonated so much with anything. It was all I could do to not jump out of me seat and cheer. What an incredible opportunity and we are ecstatic to be a part of it.
We also got the go ahead this week to book our flights. We were trying to make arrangements and now because there is a long weekend, we must wait to confirm these bookings on Tuesday…..sigh! We promise to keep you all posted.
Happy Canada Day!! (tomorrow)
