The First Day of Winter

Posted by on December 22, 2012

December 21 – The First Day of Winter. In years past as this day has arrived I have bemoaned the fact that we have already experienced winter for months. This year it is different, we celebrated the fact that we could be outside doing things. We had a fantastic day enjoying God’s creation.

To start our day off, we climbed the 3 Sisters. These sisters are slightly different than the 3 Sisters we are familiar with in our Canadian Mountainous Region, yet we enjoy their beauty and find they are our “mountains” that bring peace to us. We love the outdoors and look for different ways that we can embrace that here.

At the top of the three sisters, we were able to look out over the city, as well as some of the surrounding villages. It was a beautiful view. The weather was perfect, clear blue sky with a lovely breeze. We took our dog along too, his first hike. The girls enjoyed watching him jump and climb.

Then for supper we headed to the Dunes. Once again the girls rolled and played in the sand with great joy and delight. As we were there playing, many local children came to join in the fun. We had a hotdog roast and watched the sunset. It was a beautiful day. We felt the arms of God wrap around us. We felt a connection to our Canadian home as we sat under the same moon and the same stars.  It was a peaceful and serene evening.

As we continue to anticipate Christmas in the next few days, we look forward to our time together as a family and the new ways that we will celebrate. No matter where you are, we pray that you will be touched by the love that was sent for each of you so many years ago when Jesus came to earth as a babe. The reason we celebrate Christmas today.
